Description
Lawrence O'Neill - It has been nearly 70 years but the memories might have been formed yesterday. Mother Borgia was the principal and also taught fifth through eighth grades, all in one classroom. There were only four classrooms, and Sister Aquinas taught math. The school was perched on "stilts" its frame second story surrounded by a wide porch, where Sister Camilla stood at lunchtime to cut thick slices of ham for the boys. At 82, Father Laurence O'Neill rattles off the recollections easily, anecdotes that somehow haven't been obscured by a lifetime of traveling the world on missions for the Catholic Church. They still emerge in the periodic talks he delivers to current Holy Name of Jesus School students, several generations removed from his own graduation in 1918.

Photo is dated 1966.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
