1986 Press Photo The McMurray sisters used to live in what is now the NOMA

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Two of the McMurray sisters used to say that they'd be a shoo-in to win on the television show "I've Got a Secret." No one would guess their secret: They were born in a museum. Helen McMurray Newell and Mabel McMurray Engelhardt lived with their parents, two older sisters and a brother in an apartment below the great hall of what is today the New Orleans Museum of Art, then known as the Delgado Museum, from the time they were born, 1916 and 1917, respectively, until 1918.

Photo is dated 1986.

Photo measures 8 x 10 inches.
