Tip to New Orleanians: Mosquitoes prefer dark clothing, shun light material. It was about 1880 or so and the white-haired river pilot had taken on a full cargo of bragging about Arkansas mosquitoes. With an eye to the truth, he set the Arkansas straight: "My friend, I've been examining what you said, and it seems you may have stretched it a little. I won't say you've pulled the truth all out of shape; it's still recognizable, although limp and ragged and looking worse for the experience.
