Description
(M. E. Flowers, 48, of Houston, was rescued from the oil drilling barge which capsized in the Mississippi River and trapped nine of Flowers' fellow workers. he describes his rescue.) I was in the pump room of the oil barge when she gave an awful heave . It wasn't too rough, but we knew it was serious. The barge turned over in a hurry. And while she was turning I ran out of the pump room. In a minute I was swept off the barge and went out, I guess, about 100 feet. That's maybe what saved me.

Photo is dated 1957.

Photo measures 8.5 x 7 inches.
