Description
Betty Ferrell's extensive foreign vocabulary is unique. "I have a large collection of nouns in just about any language of the world. And that's the extent of it." The sparkling blonde aide to Sol Hurok, a weekend visitor at the Royal Orleans, explained that she got to be a ragged-but-ready language specialist through sheer necessity, shepherding the troupes her boss imports to this country. "My first foreign-bloc assignment some years ago was taking a Cuban company to South America. There, every day's a crisis. I went down with no Spanish, but I learned fast Now I get along so well that I wasn't fazed the other day in Dallas when I got a frantic call from the theater playing the Mexican Folklorico company. Customs said a bull had arrived from Spain in a large carton, consigned to the Mexicans. I rushed down and sure enough, the Spanish Customs billing said it was a bull. Only it turned out to be a gorgeous one with red velvet face and gold horns. All it cost to get it cleared was a cup of coffee, $1.70 and lots of listening to customs officers."
