Veneration of the cross, an act of devotion practiced over the centuries by faithful Catholics on Good Friday, is performed here by one of thousands of church-goers who observed the anniversary of Christ's Crucifixion here. the scene, typical of others throughout the city, was at St. Patrick's Church, 714 Camp, with altar boy Martin Purdy looking on. Three-hour Protestant Services on the Seven Last Words of Christ From the Cross and traditional Stations of the Cross also makred the day, Christendom's most solemn occasion, which will be superseded Easter Sunday with the joyous festival of Easter.
