Description
In 1762 aNew Orleans merchant named Pierce Laclede Liguest announced that he had found "a situation" for a community just below the junction of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. That community today is St. Louis. Its Mayor Joseph M. Darst, is in New Orleans "looking over the situation" for a proposed St. Louis-New Orleans world's fair in 1953.
