1967 Press Photo Colorado Student Kevin Shields reads Braille on Hiking Trail

Kevin Shields, 15, a student at the Colorado school for the Deaf and Blind, reads a braille marker at Dedication ceremonies for what is said to be the world's first nature trail for the blind. The "Roaring Fork Braille Trail" is located on Highway 82 about 12 miles from Aspen, Colorado. Marker shown overlooks Running Fork River. Sponsors of the program include the school, the Denver Federal Executive Board, United States Forest Service, Colorado Lions Club Foundation for the Blind and the Office of Economic Opportunity Job Corps.
