Description
The Coast Guard Cutter "Manitou" pictured sliding down the ways at the Coast Guard Yard, Curtis Bay, Maryland. This is the first of a fleet of ships that the Coast Guard is building. The cutter was sponsored by Miss Eleanor Wright, civilian employee at CG headquarters in Washington, who was given the honor after winning a contest in a war bond drive.

Photo is dated 1942.
