1940 Press Photo Amtorg's V.F. Fedorev Takes Pictures of Newsmen - ney29134

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Another group of silent, mysterious, mechanical minded agents of Russia Amtorg Trading Corp was in Los Angeles last night bound for the steppes of the homeland. The entourage, composed of 16 men, women and children came in on the Union Pacific Challenger, let it leak out they will leave for the USSR tomorrow on the SS Margaret Johnson. One member of the part, V.F. Fedorev was annoyed by newsmen's questions and became particularly irked when his picture was taken. HE tried to even things up by taking a photographer's picture every time they "shot" him. Amtorg is Joe Stalin's official purchasing company. It was assumed that this particular party was in the United States buying war supplies. A similar group passed through Los Angeles August 30, and just as yesterday's group, refused to reveal names, purposes, destinations, although one man said he was a mechanical engineer.

Photo is dated 1940.

Photo measures 7 x 9.25 inches.
