Description
In Boston, three hundred years of existence were rounded out by the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts with a colorful ceremony on Boston Common June 6th. Military units from Canada and England, and many other groups assisted in the program. The Artillery ancients form the oldest chartered military organization in America. Shown is Major Richard C. Cole, acting chief of The Artillery Ancients, digging dirt for planting 18-foot oak sapling presented by King George VI of England to the Ancients. Planting was part of the ceremony.

Photo is dated 1938.
