1962 Press Photo Rectifier Cell Pillars International Rectifier Corp El Segundo

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
These new power-packing pillars, each containing 360 rectifier cells, have been developed by International Rectifier Corporation, El Segundo, California, as the ultimate in solid-state physics energy production packages. Linked to form a giant rectifier "bridge" rated at 35,000 volt D.C. capacity at 55 amperes, these super-power devices represent the last stage in replacement of power vacuum tubes by solid state devices. Their power is needed to energize radar early warning and to help study energy from nuclear fusion. International Rectifier will show them at the WESCON electronic exposition in San Francisco.

Photo is dated 1962.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
