SIXTY SIX FAMILIES IN A BLOCK HERE TURNED THEIR HOMES STREET AND HOSPITALITY OVER TO THEIR COUNTRY'S ARMED DEFENDERS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING IN A PARTY REMINISCENT OF THE BLOCK PARTIES FOR SOLDIERS IN THE WORLD WAR. TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY SOLDIERS FROM MITCHELL FIELD, L.I. WERE SERVED DINNER ON TABLES PLACED IN THE STREET UNDER A CANOPY OF THREES. LATER OTHERS FROM FORT TOTTEN AND SAILORS FROM SHIPS IN PORT JOINED THEM FOR A DANCE. UNITED SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS COOPERATED IN THE EVENT. HERE ARE THE SOLDIERS ARE SHOWN AS THEY INVADED THE BLOCK FOR THE GALA EVENT. EACH TABLE WAS SER FOR THREE OR FOUR SOLDIERS WHO ENJOYED A SUNDAY DINNER PREPARED BY ONE OF THE FAMILIES ON THE BLOCK.
