1941 Press Photo New York Mayor LaGuardia Hints He is Leaving City Hall NYC

Mayor Fiorello H LaGuardia (right) as he administered the oath of office of President of the City Council to Newbold Morris (left) at City Hall, Dec 23. During the ceremony the Mayor hinted that he might leave duties of the Mayor's office to Morris who as Councilman President serves as acting mayor in the mayor absence, when he said to him "be prepared to assume this office." LaGuardia, as National Civilian Defense Director has found that this job is becoming more demanding and it has been rumored that he will five all of his time to it in the near future. With the 2 officials in the above photo are Bobby Morris, 9, (left-center) and Peter Morris, 10, sons of the councilman president, who is serving his 2nd term in that office.
