Description

A U.S. training vessel, the American Seaman, was opened to general public inspection for the first time since the start of the war. The ship, tied up in Pier I, was allowed to be examined in connection with the observance of National Maritime Week, which starts tomorrow. Here part of the scores of persons who went up the gangplank inspect a life boat. The public had a chance to inspect the ship's anti-aircraft and anti-submarine armaments, to visit the crew's quarters and to witness fire and rescue drills. Photo measures 7 x 9 inches. Photo is dated 05-20-1944.
