1942 Press Photo Marines Amphibious Corps "Eureka" patrol boats on British Water

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
They don't call them American Commandos, but that's what the men of the US Marines Amphibious Corps really are. These Marine Landing Parties trained not for defense but for slashing attack, are virtually the same type of troops as the famed British Commandos. Ever since the President announced the state of limited emergency in 1940, the Marines Corps has been training these special troops in everything from Jiu-Jitsu to the toughest major offensive. Today they are ready. "Eureka" boats and patrol boats in this formation may now be engaged in patrolling British waters under actual war conditions. A substantial share of American made landing party equipment has been going in a steady stream to the British for many months.

Photo is dated 1942.

Photo measures 10 x 8 inches.
