1943 Press Photo Charles Lander and Thomas Rooney separate mail for the soldiers

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Working in a US Army Base Post Office somewhere in North Africa, Pfc. Charles Lander of Ozone Park, New York and Private Thomas Rooney of New York City prepare soldier mail for directory service. Already separated according to APO numbers, the letters are now being sorted alphabetically, just two steps in the complicated system by which mail from home is delivered to our fighting men.

Photo is dated 1943.

Photo measures 9 x 7.25 inches.
