One of a series of pictures showing the seizure and search of the mails carried on the United States Liner Manhattan by the British at their contraband Control Station at Gibraltar . Seizures of the U.S. mail such as this one led to the filing of a protest in London by the US government. Here is the last stage of the seizure. The British officers have given all clear signal and are leaving the Manhattan.
