1940 Press Photo Captain James Roosevelt lead battalion for military training

Two United States Marine Corps Reserve Battalions, including among their officers Captain James Roosevelt, son of the president (left) Los Angeles to go into Military training at San Diego's Camp Elliott on Kearny Mesa. Five hundred and eighty officers and men of the 13th and 22nd battalions made the trip. Photo shows Captain Jame Roosevelt leading his company down the steps of Los Angeles' Chavez Ravine Armory before departing. Young Roosevelt, now in a dime movie machine business, announced his intention to relinquish his position to an associate during active duty.
