Description
A chief Petty Officer working a shaping machine in one of the machine shops of the Vernon Training School for British Navy Recruit Artificers at Portsmouth. Every yea 250 new artifiers are required for the Royal Navy. On entry recruits undergo a ten weeks "New Entry" course in one of the Royal Navy Barracks are drafted to sea, their first year at sea being regarded as technical training.
