1942 Press Photo Col Earl Cranston Ewert Hoists Stars & Stripes for First Time

Photo released by the war department, in D.C. on Jan 27th shows Col Earl Cranston Ewert, Commander of the Jamaica Base Command, hoisting the stars and stripes for the first time at the U.S. Army Base at Jamaica, B.W.I., in a ceremony held recently. Standing at the right is Lt Col Robert G Lovett, U.S. Engineer, in charge of construction. A few of the civilian employees of the U.S. Engineers are visible in the rear. To the extreme right may be seen the beginning of a lie of officers of other services, and of the base headquarters staff. The troops were massed on the left side of the square and consequently were out of camera range.
