For his contribution to the early development of Radar Lawrence A.Hayland Vice President of Bendix Aviation Corporation receives Navy's Highest Civilian Honor the Distinguished public service award from Rear Admiral Rico Botta, Assistant Chief of Naval Materiel at ceremonies in Detroit Rackham Memorial Bldg. Hyland made the first practical application of Radar to the detection of aircraft. He is a member of Defense Secretary Johnson's guided Missile Committee.
