Description
Mrs. Elena Diaczok, of Detroit, holds her 2-year-old daughter Tanya Chwastov in her arms on the steps on the American Embassy in London as an embassy official hands baby Tanya her first U.S. passport. The child became an international figure when her father, Alexei Chwastov, kidnapped her and, with aid from Soviet agents, tried to spirit her from the U.S. to Russia. A court writ served on Chwastov in London thwarted plans to continue on to Moscow. Mother and child will fly home tonight for the "biggest Christmas party ever."

Photo is dated 1956.
