1952 Press Photo Government Storage Beans Spoil in Horseheads New York Warehouse

Shown is a section of the warehouse near Utica, where 360,000 hundred-pound sacks of government owned beans are deteriorating while the government pays $10,800 a month for their storage. The beans are part of a 1948-49 price support purchase of $7,600,000 worth of beans by the Commodity Credit Corporation, of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Already through spoilage there has been a dead loss of $3,080,000.
