Santa Barbara, California - Reverend Patrick A. Donohoe, S.J. (center), President of the University of Santa Clara, looks on as Mary Carolyn Somers (right), the first woman graduate in the school's 110-year history, receives diploma from Mrs. Eunice K. Shriver, the first woman to address a Commencement exercise at the school. Mrs. Shriver, wife of the Peace Corps Director R. Sargent Shriver and sister of President Kennedy, called upon the graduates to give two years' service to a "Domestic Peace Corps" by volunteering for public service.
