Description
Chains Aid Mobility-This chain driven ocean floor tractor bell, under development by Wilson Marine Systems, Inc., Houston, Texas, combines the maneuverability of a land tractor with the buoyancy and stability of a diving bell to add broader capability to ocean bottom surveillance, exploration and inspection. Two continuous welded steel chains provide both power transmission and traction on the ocean floor and are flexible to help the vehicle transverse rough underwater terrain and mud bottom areas. The tractor bell may be manned by a crew of two or remotely controlled from a surface vessel. Oceanography.
