Battle of Hastings. Statue of King Harold is set in one of the exterior walls of Waltham Abbey in Essex, where he was buried following his death at the Battle of Hastings. Before King Edward the Confessor's death, Harold had sworn to help William of Normandy become King of England, but when Edward died, Harold took the crown for himself, causing William to come and take it from him. England, memorials, monuments, statues.
