1955 Press Photo Ballot boxes being prepared in England for polling stations

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
England. In a scene about to be repeated in England for the first time since 1951, ballot boxes are prepared for sending to the polling stations. The worker in front is checking directives inside a ballot box before closing it. Behind her directive pamphlets and forms are being sorted. Charges and counter charges, claims and counter claims are being made by the Conservative Party and the challenging Labor Party as the day nears for the fourth British general election since World War II. Each blames the other for the high cost of living and the rash of strikes on which the average voter's interest is centered as he tries to make up his mind.

Photo is dated 1955.

Photo measures 7 x 9.25 inches.
