Dunkirk: Nearing completion at Dunkirk is a memorial to the nearly 4,700 soldiers of the British Expeditionary Forces who fell during the fierce campaign of 1939-1940. Lining a plaza (above) are wide columns on which will be engraved the names of those who died. at the entrance to the plaza (background) will be two columns with this inscription: "Here beside the graves of their comrades are commemorated the soldiers of the British Expeditionary Force who fell in the campaign of 1939-1940 and have no known grave." The memorial, which adjoins the Dunkirk Cemetery, will be dedicated by Britain's Queen Mother Elizabeth. England monuments and memorials.
