A "patient" demonstrates the 24-million-electron-volt Betatron in position for treatment of cancer, at the Memorial Center for Cancer and Allied Diseases. The machine, which is 12 times more powerful than the conventional x-ray equipment, will be used for cancer research and treatment. The completion of the Physiology Laboratory-Betatron Building where the machine is located was announced on Oct. 10. The laboratories will be used for research designed to increase cancer cure rates by overcoming the present-day limitations of surgery and radiation treatment.
