1929 Press Photo Gen. Primo De Rivers confers with members of the Directorate

Collapse of the Spanish government under the dictatorship of Gen. Primo De Rivera, which was instituted in 1923, appears imminent, as discontent spreads. The civil guard, the strongest arm of the dictatorship, has been reported as having shown active sympathy with the manifestants. Photo taken during recent revolt shows Gen. De Rivera (center uniform) conferring with members of the Directorate, immediately after the issuance of King Alfonso's proclamation, which discharged all officers of the artillery, as means of of quelling the revolt.
