Francis P. Old, 65, retired vice-admiral, Monday at Great Lakes (Illinois) naval hospital after long illness. Was World War II battleship commander and former commandant of 9th naval district which includes Wisconsin. Was awarded legion of merit three times in 35 year naval career. (Old was presented a citation of merit by Marquette university in Milwaukee in 1953).
