1952 Press Photo 734 Storage boxes are stenciled by postal employees.

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Attempts to put mail in storage boxes should halt, now that these stencils are being painted on the 734 boxes in the Milwaukee area. Carriers often have seen people checking the green boxes, hunting for an opening into which to put mail and occasionally have found a stamped parcel left on top of a box. The box at North 7th Street and West Wisconsin Avenue was stenciled Wednesday by Theodore Kopaczewski (left), 208 East Montana Street, and Ferdinand Fritz, 2465 North 80th Street Wauwatosa, postal department employees. Photo is dated 1952.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
