Tear gas vapor rose from the center of Rome's Piazza Venezia Wednesday as police fought rioting building workers. A stream of water spurted from a fire truck as officers tried to restore order. The building industry suspended construction as a protest against taxes. The workers protested the suspension of building. Their demonstration began quietly but developed into a riot.
