Description
Tokyo: Japanese Prime Minister Zenko Suzuki with his wife, Sashi, by his side sets out from home, July 15, for Liberal Democratic Party headquarters on the day he was appointed the new leader of the party. Suzuki, 69, a friend of the late Prime Minister Masayoshi Ohira and known as a quiet party mediator, told the press he never imagined he would assume the mantel of power. His party's waning strength was reversed in the last election when it increased its slim majority in both legislative houses to commanding proportions.

Photo measures 8 x 10 inches. Photo is dated 07-15-1980.
