There is a cat scooting around at the new F.A.O. Schwarz store in New York City. To the delight of the adults and children that crowd around it all day, it easily navigates a maze of metal pipes that look like a miniature Jungle Gym, meows, purrs and likes to be petted. If you clap your hands, it comes to you obediently. It requires no litter box, doesn't attract fleas and doesn't shed on the carpet. Ranging in cost from about $25 for the radio-controlled Petster Puppy to $100 for the deluxe Petster Cat, Petsters are the ultimate among the growing number of stuffed cats, dogs and other animals now being marketed as pet substitutes. In the last year, $20 million worth of Petsters have been sold. The inventor of the Petster line, Nolan K. Bushnell, who also invented the first video game and founded the Atari Corp., is not surprised at the popularity of electronic and other substitute pets. Toys - Stuffed Animals
