Milwaukee -- Checks Storm Damage -- Laurie Bergstrom examined damaged to what was the second story of her suburban Brookfield, Wisconsin home. Weather officials said "tornado-like winds" hit the area Saturday, badly damaging about half a dozen homes, but no injuries were reported. --- Winning Photos -- Journal photographer Dale Guldan won an honorable mention for this photo, entitled "Tornado Survivor," in the news photo category of the 1982 Inland Daily Press Association's News Picture Awards. Guldan placed second in the picture stories category for "Tornado Touchdown." The photos in both categories described the aftermath of a tornado that struck Brookfield in May. Journal photographer George R. Cassidy received an honorable mention in the color photography category for "Vanishing Africa," his series of photos that appeared in The Journal earlier this year. --- Laurie Bergstrom examined the tornado damage to a second-story bedroom in the family's home. The exterior walls had to be rebuilt and several ceilings had water damage. The repairs took about six weeks.
