Kathy Vandenberg would never have imagined that a peaceful visit to Israel could lead to a frightening night in a school surrounded by armed soldiers. Vandenberg, of Waukesha was a member of a group of peace activists visiting Israel last week. They were at a Lutheran School in Beit Sahur, a village near Jerusalem, when the entire village was placed under curfew. Vandenberg and other group members were surrounded by Israeli soldiers, and told they would be shot if they left the school grounds.
