Description
Delicate work on the Pettit National Ice Center gets under way as workers begin carefully pouring concrete for the facility's 400-meter indoor speedskating oval Wednesday in Milwaukee. More than 100 truckloads, 1,000 cubic yards of concrete, are to be used on the track at State Fair Park, which will be smoothed to a surface variance of no more than 3/16 of an inch. Two crews working in opposite directions at the southwest corner of the building began at 6 a.m. and were expected to finish pouring at 6 p.m. After that will come 16 to 20 hours of fine finishing. When completed, the $13.3 million center will be one of three Olympic indoor speedskating ovals in the world.

Photo measures 11.5 x 6 inches. Photo is dated 10-25-1992.
