Description
Wally Januszewski with an owl he fashioned with his chain saw.Wally Januszewski loves the outdoors. He has spent many of his 65 years fishing, picking mushrooms and observing birds. Now he has taken up the hobby of fashioning his favorite objects from wood-with a chain saw. For 30 years, Januszewski, of 1839 W, Grant Street worked for the Milwaukee County Forestry Department as an equipment operator. Another of his jobs was engineering the train at the zoo. Since then he has taught himself woodcraving. " I began when I got a chain saw for Christmas and had to do something with the stumps and branches I cleaned out of the yard of my Delafield lake house," he said. "At first I did mushrooms and owls, then branched out to pigs." Januszewski's chain-saw art is hefty. Each piece weighs about 20 pounds. He sells to homeowners to place in their gardens to use as doorstops. He estimates he's created 60 different mushrooms and 40 owls.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches. Photo is dated 03-13-1987.
