Insects - After a gypsy moth was spotted in Washington County last year, the US Department of Agriculture has stepped up its plant protection and quarantine program. Above: Bob Edmonds, the USDA officer in charge of the program, nailed a trap to a tree. Right: A number of traps are hanging on hardwood trees, which are particularly vulnerable to the moths. Below: The traps carry a warning that they are not to be disturbed.
