Description
Tara Peschong cares for her son Justin, who will be able to use the county's subsidized transportation program to visit Santa Claus if a recommendation by a County Board committee is adopted. Justin has a rare, terminal genetic muscular disorder called nemaline myopathy, which creates a unique mobility problem. Justin is dependent on both a wheelchair and a ventilator. He also has another muscular disorder called hypotonia, which prevents him from walking or even moving a lot, his mother said. A lot of people have gone away from a Milwaukee County Board meeting crying in frustration or disappointment, but Tara Peschong's tears reflected the promise of an extraordinary Christmas present for her extraordinary son, Justin. "I'd like to get him to see Santa Claus and the Domes," Peschong told the board's Mass Transit Committee on Wednesday. But to have affordable and safe transportation to the sights and sounds of the holiday season, Justin, who is 2 1/2, would have to be allowed to use the county's user side subsidy program, which provides transportation for disabled people.
