1955 Press Photo Dynamited rock is cleared away from Panama Canal Hill

Panama Canal Hill is blasted away-Dynamited rock is cleared away from Contractor's Hill during work currently in progress to terrace the famed Panama Canal hill and remove the threat of a major rock slide. Two and a half million cubic yards of rock will blasted away to make the Canal safer. The operation was determined upon last year after cracks in the rock formation, first noticed in 1938, were found to have grown bigger. Radio towers in background are part of U.S. Naval Radio Station at Summit in the Canal Zone.
