Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Milwaukee police paid tribute Tuesday to one of their own who did not die by violence in the line of duty. At a ceremony at the Civic Center Plaza, the Milwaukee Police Association presented a special plaque to the family of traffic officer Ewald Schaefer, 53 who died in March of natural causes. The presentation was during a ceremony that usually honors police officers who died in the line of duty. No Milwaukee officer has been killed while on duty since 1982. Above: Officer Patrick Monaghan saluted after placing a wreath at the plaza monument during the Police Memorial Day Salute. Left: Sheriff Richard Artison, one of the guest speakers, saluted.
