Washington: (Patricia Roberts Harris), Jimmy Carter's choice for HUD secretary (center) was criticized and praised 1/10 when she went before the Senate Banking Committee on a confirmation hearing. Chairman William Proxmire, D-Wisconsin (left) complained of her lack of experience in the housing field but predicted she would be confirmed. At right is Delaware Walter Fauntroy, Democrat -Washington D.C. Who is the real Patricia Roberts Harris? She is President Carter's HUD secretary, but beyond that, she is something of an enigma. She has remained unlabeled and uncategorized, although she ahs suffered the consequences of being both black and female.
