Description
Wisconsin's only working iron mine, the Jackson County Iron Co., sprawls over acres of land near Black River Falls. The open pit mine and processing plant, a subsidiary of the Inland Steel Co., ships 920,000 tons of taconite pellets a year to Inland's steel mills in the Chicago area. The mine was opened in 1969. The mine is in the background and the plant in the foreground of this aerial photo.
