Description
The Harbor Seagull is used to clean debris - here it's alewives - from the river. Something fishy was going on in the Milwaukee river Thursday. The work boat Harbor Seagull scooped up dead alewives in a net north of the Juneau Avenue bridge. The ocean fish, which have entered the Great Lakes through the Saint Lawrence seaway, die in great number due to sudden changes of water temperature. Port authorities said the Seagull had cleared "many tons" of the smelly fish from the harbor and river. Aboard the Seagull were (from left) Castulo Vasquez, 1606 South Seventh Street, James Kaczmarek, 4134 South Fifth Street, and Clayton Swinford, 1218 South Twenty-first Street.

Photo is dated 1968.

Photo measures 10.5 x 8 inches.
