1963 Press Photo Estabrook park dam opening lowers level of Milwaukee River

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
The secrets of the Milwaukee river have been revealed once again as the level has been lowered in Estabrook and Lincoln parks. The Estabrook park dam is opened every autumn so that ice bearing floodwaters next spring can flow freely rather than jam up at the north end of Lincoln park. Looking west in Estabrook park, the North Fort Washington Road and north-south expressway bridges are in the background.

Photo is dated 1963.

Photo measures 10 x 7.5 inches.
