1953 Press Photo Wisconsin Boy Scouts observe first aid demonstrations

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Realistic first aid demonstrations were devised by Explorer Scouts at Pine Lake (Oneida county). Flesh colored wax and red dye were used to simulate deep gashes in the arms and hands. Ralph Stromme, Jr., faked a grimace of pain from a "severed artery" as Ed Norton (left) applied a tourniquet. Stromme was "held down" by (from left) Fran Wilcox, Robert Riley and Jack Campbell.
