Earl Russell In "Sit-Down" H-Bomb Protest: The 88-year-old philosopher, Earl Russell, this afternoon led a "sit-down" demonstration against nuclear weapons, outside the Ministry of Defence, in Whitehall. The demonstration was organised by the Committee of 100 to press home their demand for the immediate scrapping of the Polaris agreement with U.S. The U.S. Depot Ship carrying Polaris missiles is expected in the Clyde today. The Committee of 100 was formed in October 1960., in response to an appeal by Earl Russell and the Rev. Michael Scott, and its purpose is to organize non-violent resistance to nuclear war and to the manufacture and use of all weapons of mass destruction by any power.
